Questions about selling an FTX claim

Find the relevant section: checking a claim, country restrictions, offer terms, signing and payment. These answers describe how we work; your specific rights and obligations are set by your transaction documents.

The claim and its status

How do I check my FTX claim amount and status?

Check the official Customer Claims Portal and available Kroll records. The Customer Code helps locate the correct record. The FTX SELL website check is an additional tool, rather than a substitute for an official decision.[1] Additional primary source: FTX: Digital Asset Estimates and the court-approved conversion table.

Does Allowed mean the money is already available?

No. It is a claim status as defined in the applicable documents. Recipient and distribution-round conditions are checked separately.[3] Additional primary source: 11 U.S.C. § 502: allowance of claims and determination of their amount.

My claim shows Disputed. Does that necessarily mean it is contested?

No. FTX lists possible reasons including incomplete reconciliation, jurisdictional review and certain cases of reconciling previous payments. Find the precise explanation; one word is not enough to draw a conclusion.[2]

Can I discuss selling a claim with Disputed status?

You can submit information for review. Purchase eligibility and terms depend on the reason for the status, the documents and the rights that can be transferred. There is no automatic buyout promise.

It is worth finding out first what exactly the objection says and how much it covers. Sometimes the dispute concerns a small part while the rest is uncontested, and then the difference in price is smaller than it seems.

I have already received distributions. Can I sell the remaining rights?

Yes, these claims can be submitted for review. Disclose each distribution already received before agreeing an offer: the offer concerns the remaining rights.

Say so at the outset and tell us how much has come in. It affects the calculation: we buy what is left, not the full face value of the claim. If it goes unmentioned, the discrepancy will surface when the register is checked, and the price will have to be revisited after the conversation rather than during it.

What does Expunged or no search result mean?

Check the grounds and search scope. Expungement of a particular record may concern its version or a duplicate. No match does not prove the absence of all rights: check the identifier and official documents. Additional primary source: FTX: KYC statuses explained; FTX: downloading transaction history and accessing data for expunged claims.

Country of residence and official distributions

What happens if I simply do nothing?

Missing applicable steps and deadlines may result in permanent forfeiture of particular distributions. FTX describes tax notices and DSP onboarding in the Forfeiture section. Check your own dates and notices; do not treat inaction as a guaranteed deferral.

Why are no distribution service providers available in the portal?

Available options depend on residence information and service rules. FTX lists BitGo, Kraken and Payoneer, while the provider makes the final onboarding decision.[3]

A provider appearing in the menu does not mean it has accepted you as a customer: separate onboarding follows selection. If there are no options, check current FTX information and your notices. Do not infer that funds can safely wait indefinitely; applicable deadlines and distribution-forfeiture risks must be checked separately.[3]

Can the list of countries and providers change?

Yes. FTX allows for possible additional options. Do not treat an old list as a permanent rule; check the current guidance and portal. More details: FTX: distribution service providers and payment eligibility requirements.

The list may change, but no date is promised for a suitable option to become available to an individual creditor. Do not postpone required actions solely in anticipation of future expansion.[3]

Can I enter another country to make a provider appear?

Use accurate information. If your residence has genuinely changed, follow the official update process. An option appearing in a menu does not guarantee that you will pass verification. More details: FTX: distribution service providers and payment eligibility requirements.

The provider checks information during onboarding; a visible button does not replace verification of your address, documents and other required details. We do not work with cases where a false country has been entered on purpose. Follow the official update process for a genuine move.

Does having no provider mean my claim has been cancelled?

No. Payment channel availability and the legal status of a claim must be checked separately. A country list does not establish an individual decision on a claim. More details: FTX: distribution service providers and payment eligibility requirements.

Offers and documents

What does an FTX SELL offer depend on?

The offer reflects expected distributions and waiting time, the condition of the claim, and transaction costs. These are three separate parts of the assessment; face value alone is not enough.

The buyer considers which remaining distributions may be received and when. It takes on the wait associated with the rights purchased; future distribution amounts and dates are not guaranteed in advance.

The review covers status, amount, documents, KYC, tax steps, distributions already received and the scope of rights transferred. An unresolved dispute or unfinished steps may affect whether a purchase is possible and the terms offered.

Our costs include the court filing, a Delaware attorney and processing. The buyer bears those costs and factors them into its offer; a separate processing commission is not subsequently deducted from the agreed amount. The contract records the final amount and payment terms.

Why does the offered percentage not explain the whole transaction?

Percentages may use different bases. Check which rights and payments are included, what amount should be received and whether deductions apply. See the claim amount guide for more details.

Is there a minimum claim size?

We have no general minimum claim size and consider smaller claims too. This is an opportunity to enquire, not a commitment to buy every claim.

Processing costs do not fall in direct proportion to a claim’s face value. On a smaller amount, they may therefore represent a larger share of the calculation and affect the offer. Discuss the costs and terms for the specific claim; identical processing costs for any two transactions cannot be promised.

What is needed for the initial enquiry?

Basic information: Customer Code or identifier, platform, known amount, status and past payments. You do not need to attach documents at the first step.[4]

Which documents are needed at later stages?

The team clarifies the requirements after reviewing the case. Before signing, you should understand the agreement and transfer documents. Do not treat the initial enquiry as a complete documentation packet for every transaction.

Do I need a notary, power of attorney or apostille?

For a standard sale with us, no notary, notarised power of attorney or apostille is required. The agreement and notice of transfer are signed electronically.

Selling a claim differs from appointing a representative to act in your name: the buyer acquires the rights specified in the contract. Requirements for representation should not automatically be applied to a standard sale.

Where the seller acts through a representative, or the case involves inheritance, a legal entity or other special circumstances, agree the required documents and signing method separately.

What if I change my mind after receiving an offer?

A quote is not yet a signed contract. You may decline at any stage before signing, without explaining why and without a penalty or deduction.

FTX SELL may also decline a purchase following its review. Requesting a quote does not guarantee a transaction.

After signing, the contract determines the parties’ obligations and any cancellation rights. The freedom to decline an unsigned offer must not be extended to an agreement already concluded.

Signing, payment and filing

In what currency and when does FTX SELL pay?

We pay in USDT or USDC during the video call, immediately after the documents are signed.

The sequence matters: first signing, then payment and the seller’s verification of receipt, and only afterwards filing the claim-transfer documents with the court. Under this process, the seller does not wait for the objection period to end before receiving payment.

FTX SELL does not withhold a separate processing commission or deduct it from the agreed price. The final quoted amount is the amount payable under the contract. Agree the currency, network, address and method of confirming receipt in advance.

Payment before filing does not remove every obligation of the seller: representations, exceptions and steps to address discrepancies are governed by the contract.

Is a separate filing fee deducted?

We bear the processing and court-filing costs. No separate processing commission is withheld from the agreed price.

Those costs may be factored into the offer itself. This differs from an additional deduction after agreement: before signing, check the final amount, currency and contractual payment conditions.

Why is it important to check the payment network?

USDT and USDC exist on different networks. The asset, network and address must match those supported by your wallet. A screenshot sent to you does not replace actual receipt. More details: FTX SELL: signing, payment and filing documents.

What does the 21-day period mean?

In the procedure under Rule 3001(e)(2), this is the objection period after notice of the transfer filing is mailed. It does not automatically run from signing and is not a promise of court approval.[6]

Who is entitled to a payment received during the transaction process?

This should be determined in the agreement, taking into account the official record and applicable distribution date. Report the receipt to the team and follow the agreed procedure.

Will my name be visible in the court case?

Filed documents and disclosure rules depend on the proceedings and court orders. Complete anonymity cannot be promised for every filing. If this matters to you, establish the procedure before signing.

The transfer notice is a court document: the buyer’s name is visible, while seller details in this case are redacted in practice. This is current practice, not a guarantee for every document. Before signing, establish which fields and attachments will be filed and which disclosure rules apply to your case.

Safety and FTX SELL’s role

What should I check before agreeing?

Check the transaction structure and documents, rather than relying only on messages. Verify the claim amount and status against official FTX/Kroll records, the transfer process against the applicable procedure, and distribution information against official notices.

We pay after signing, during the video call, before the court filing. Check this order in your contract and verify actual receipt rather than relying on a transfer screenshot.

We do not ask for an advance payment, charge no separate commission, never ask for access to your email and do not require a passport at the first step. Initial claim information and later document checks are different stages; subsequent identity verification must not be confused with handing over mailbox access.

You may decline the offer before signing. Afterwards, the contract determines the parties’ duties; saying that “all risk then passes to the buyer” does not cancel obligations the seller retains.

Is an advance payment required to receive an offer?

No advance payment is required for an offer. Do not send money in response to an unexpected demand to “activate” your payment; verify the enquiry through the website.

Does FTX SELL act on behalf of FTX or the court?

No. FTX SELL is an independent claim buyer. It is not affiliated with FTX Trading Ltd., the FTX Recovery Trust or the claims agent, and does not act for the court.

FTX SELL does not represent the seller as an adviser, manage the seller’s money or provide legal, tax or investment advice as part of the claim purchase.

Distinguish a commercial purchase offer from an official case notice or FTX distribution. If a sender presents a sale as a mandatory official step, verify the message through the Customer Claims Portal and official channels.

Does purchasing a claim include legal or tax advice?

No. A claim purchase transaction and professional advice are different services. Consult the relevant professional if you have questions about your obligations.
