Why the payout is unavailable
North Korea is under the strictest restriction regime in existence: it is set not by one country but by UN Security Council decisions, and it applies to practically all financial transactions.
Buying a claim from a North Korean resident is prohibited, and no amount of checking the seller changes that.
Here we will say something we do not say on other pages. Cryptocurrency transactions connected to North Korea are under particular scrutiny from financial regulators, because of the history of funds stolen by state-linked groups. That makes such transactions not merely prohibited but conspicuous: they draw attention to both sides.
If you are a North Korean citizen living in another country, read that country's page. The restriction is worked out by place of residence and by listed persons, not by origin.
What you can do now
The claims agent's public search works from anywhere and takes an FTX Customer Code without a portal login. The state of the claim can be checked there.
We have no further practical advice, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
I am from this country. What do I do?
- Check that the claim is allowed. The claims agent runs a public search that takes an FTX Customer Code with no portal login.
- Close out identity verification and tax forms if they are open. They do not depend on a provider, and nothing works without them.
